Its so calling place. Roberto 1 contribution. Serene Water Palace Destroyed by Commercialism. I have been to Tirta Gangga three times in the past ten years.
Before it was one of the most beautiful gardens in Bali. The trip I took in June , however, I found it drastically changed with concrete restaurants built and under construction inside the botanical gardens.
It appears that they have decided to make it a place for children, with boats you can rent to ride around the ponds and ugly metal swings. This used to be a spiritual palace complex, quiet and peaceful. Now it is simply a tourist trap, overrun, over-commercialized. Even selling hamburgers, which is against the hindu culture. This is truly a tragedy. Quite nice on the way back from the volcano. Really nice place to visit. Definitely a great place to take pics. I went there around 8am and it was really quiet so took my time with pictures.
I would definitely recommend. Rob Casablanca, Morocco contributions. I've been to Bali many times but have never made the trip to the water palace. As we were staying in Ubud this time, we decided the four-hour round trip was worthwhile. With lunch at Bali Asli on the way highly recommended , we headed to Tirta Gangga or the water palace. We were approached by a guide who wouldn't say how much he charged and we forged ahead with him.
It was all right having him take us around but I wouldn't recommend it for the price he wanted at the end - , Rp - a bit steep I felt. The gardens and ponds are magnificent. We went for a swim in the refreshing water which is supposed to make you 10 years younger we are still waiting for that! It is otherwise known as the fountain of youth. There is a great fountain where you can get a refreshing back massage from the pounding water. The local kids had great fun frolicking in the water on tube tyres.
It was pleasant having a cool drink at the restaurant overlooking the gardens at the end. Showing results of 1, Mokuren Seattle, WA. Cassie W Windaroo, Australia contributions. I say yes, it was one of my favourite stops - very peaceful and cooler up there.
Combine it with one or two other stops out that way to make it worthwhile. Read all replies. Can this palace be included in the day tour to ubud from seminyak? There is no dress code required for the water palace and you do not have to wear a sarong. Marge T Phnom Penh, Cambodia 17 contributions. Denise F Rockingham, Australia contributions.
They do have a few ramps here and there but stones pretty rough. Just ask a few friendly Indonesians or other tourists to help you over the difficult bits. You'll be fine. Anna S n 1 contribution. What's the opening time of Tirta Gangga.
I found different times as 7am, 8am and 9am. Building water gardens, including the designing and the labor work, was a favorite hobby of the King. As many of his visitors did not expect this, of course they were surprised to find the King himself working among his labourers, standing knee deep in mud digging out the earth. A reservoir on the grounds receives the springwater and from this reservoir drinking water is delivered via a pipe system to the town of Amlapura. There is also an underground pipe system which leads to the upper swimming pool, where it emerges through the mouth of a raksasa a demon statue which stands at a corner of the pool.
Here the water flows over into a lower level pool. From this lower level pool it flows into some small fish ponds and from there into the rice fields that border the gardens. The water of Tirta Gangga Park has always been regarded as holy and is regularly used for religious temple ceremonies. With important celebration days Tirta gangga Park is the destination of colourful processions with offerings, umbrellas, flags and other tributes.
Led by the local temple priests, ceremonies are held at the spring, accompanied by chanting and the music of the 'Beleganjur', a gamelan gong group of small gongs with each musician striking a specific, different note on the musical scale, all blending in harmony.
