You were tearing off, so this does not apply to you. But if you are the kettle man or the mop-man, avoiding the smoke can be interesting at times. During tear-offs keep the dust down to a minimum.
Use a clean, cold, wet, rag to wipe your face if you have to, and I suggest blotting. You can go to extremes and wear a pillow case or similar over your head with the eyes cut out, but I never could handle doing that. It will first feel like a light mist is hitting you, a tingling feeling; the burning comes shortly thereafter.

I agree with jjshaggy,a case of beer and any lotion with lidocane worked for me in the past. I have seen guys wear a large nylon over their heads myself i dont wear a thing,i figure im ugly enough no amount of pitch will make me uglier any advice that you receive here from our members will work. Just keep telling yourself and your co-workers that it wont last forever The only cure I know of for pitch burn is a case of beer!
As far as protection i do the trainrobber with a bandana, and one around the back of my neck. Goggles for the eyes. Long sleeve shirt is a must.
